Darryn Saenz Demo Derby Winner on
Thursday Night |
|
Ventura
CA - August 4-5, 2010..... Boosted by Pepsi Dollar Day at
the FAIR, standing room only was the
reality of the first night of the
Ventura Raceway/Ventura County Fair
Motorsports night number one on
August 4. With a totally full
grandstand, VRA Dwarf Cars, VRA Kids
Classes, USAC Focus and Young Guns
and a 14 car Demolition Derby the
night proved to be one to remember
for those in attendance.
VRA Dwarf Cars were on hand with 40
cars racing in two classes, Seniors
and Prows. The Seniors ran three
heat races and a 20 lap main event.
Heat wins went to Kent Benson,
George Calvo and Tom Stephens Sr.
The main event went to Bill VanPraag
followed by Calvo, Gordon Brand,
Geroge Sack and Glen Monk. The Pro
Class also ran three heats with wins
going to Curt Cook, Ray Estrada and
Errol Sack. Their 20 lap main went
to Lars Wolfe followed by Angel
Figueroa, Ray Estrada, Eric Alton
and Steven Benson. Both feature
winners took home a first place
check for $600.00 for their efforts.
USAC Ford Focus Midgets were on hand
on day one with 10 cars signed in.
The two heat race wins went to
Andrew Mulhearn and Wally Pankratz.
Their 20 lap feature went to Jake
Blackhurst who was followed by Cody
Kershaw, Nick Carlson, Wally
Pankratz and Bruce Douglass.
USAC Young Guns saw a popular first
time winner when Colin Henry took
the win in their 20 lap main event.
Jared Blondel, Alex Jacobson, Jake
Blackhurst and Daniel Williams
followed him to the line. They ran
one heat race, with the win going to
Casey Martinez.
VRA Kids classes were on hand racing
in three classes, Pistons, Super
Chargers and Junior Midgets. In
Junior Midgets, heat race wins went
to Riley Helland and Devin McCree.
Their 20 lap feature went to Austin
Figuerroa with McCree, Helland, Cody
Majors and Brennan Rogers following
to the checkered flag. In Mini Dwarf
Pistons, the win went to Conner
Wakim with Ryan Butcher, Destyn
Garcia, Logan Rutherford and J D
Brown following. Their two heat
races went to Rutherford and Wakim.
In Mini Dwarf Superchargers, the
main event went to Nick Velasquez
followed by Cameron McCauley, Joseph
Magana, Cole Wakim and Oliver
Blades. They also ran two heat races
with the wins going to Joey Freshour
and Tommy Velasquez.
The final event for night one was a
14 car Demolition Derby that paid
$1,000 to the last car running. The
event went to Eric Mulay who pounded
his way to victory over Travis
Riley, Walter VanWiingerdan, Michael
Stanford and Billy O.
Night two was a night that saw IMCA
Modified racers, VRA Sport Compacts,
VRA Go Karts and another Demolition
Derby.
IMCA Modifieds were on hand with 27
cars in the pits all vying for the
20 starting spots in the feature
that would pay $850 to win. Four
heat races were run with wins going
to Nick Sylvester, Aaron Rodarte,
Austin Rodarte and Mike Kirby. A
semi main event was needed to settle
the 20 car starting line up. The win
went to Daylan Coffey. Joining
Coffey and moving to the feature was
Joey Yantis, Troy Morris Jr, and
Damon Redman. The 30 lap feature was
a wild one that saw a great deal of
attrition in the early laps. Seven
cars were gone by the fifth lap
leaving the remaining thirteen to
race to the checker. At the end it
was pole sitter Danny Lauer
repeating his 2009 FAIR win.
Following Lauer to the line were
Randy Brown, Brad Prows, Mike Kirby
and Larry Hood.
VRA Sport Compacts ran their event
that paid $600 to the winner. Two
heats were run with wins going to
Brandon Reta and Trevor Fitzgibbon.
Fitzgibbon went on to take the 20
lap feature and the purse check. He
was followed across the line by Cody
Greiman, Brent Underwood, Michaela
Stanton and Zach Peterson. Brandon
Reta finished the feature in 4th on
the track but his car failed post
race tech inspection.
VRA Go Karts raced in three heat
races with wins going to David
Pankratz, Brody Roa and Ashley
Hazleton. The 20 lap feature went to
Cody Nigh follwed by Brody Roa, Troy
Rutherford, Richard Renken and Jimmy
May.
The final event for night one was a
13 car Demolition Derby that paid
$1,000 to the last car running. The
event went to Darren Saenz who
bashed all the other cars into
submission on his way to victory
over Billy O, Evan Thrasher, Kody
Harper and Cole Pitchford.
