Troy Rutherford 2010 points leader with feature win number four.

Ventura CA - July 17, 2010..... Troy Rutherford came out Saturday night July 17, with all intentions of continuing his drive to become VRA Champion this season. VRA Sprints had 28 360 sprints signed in for the night’s event fans knew that they were in for some exciting racing. Troy Rutherford led the class into the event and at the end of the night he maintained his point’s lead over Greg Taylor and 2009 series champion Kevin Kierce. His fourth win of the season puts him 385 ahead of Taylor and 400 ahead of Kierce after 14 events this year. The night began with four heat races to determine the transfer cars to the main event. Heat race victories went to Rutherford, Brian Camarillo, Don Gansen and Kenny Perkins. One semi main was contested with Guy Woodward taking the win. Joining him in transfer spots to the feature were Rick Hendrix, Austin Deblauw and Cliff Warren. The 20 main event starters took the green with Don Gansen on the pole. He jumped out to a good lead until he made contact in turn three with Cliff Warren as Warren was being lapped. The racing incident brought out the red flag, as Gansen’s car was uprighted and removed from the track. The incident also caused Brody Roa to suffer damage to his number 91 forcing him out of the race. After the race restarted Troy Rutherford took control of the race and battled Greg Taylor and Brian Camarillo to the end of the 30 lap event. As the leaders came to the checkered flag, Taylor tried to make a move on Rutherford in turn four. The two made contact with Taylor spinning out and Rutherford continuing on to take the checker and the win. The finish saw Brian Camarillo finishing second with Josh Ford third, Kenny Perkins fourth and Derek Buskley fifth.

VRA Dwarf Cars were racing together in two divisions Saturday night for the first time in 2010. Angel Figueroa kept his strong season alive by taking the win in the Pro Class. Following him to the checker were Steven Benson, Ray Estrada, Kevin Calvo and Thomas Velasque. Two Pro heats were run with wins going to Lee Majors and Curt Cook. In Seniors, the win went to Kent Benson, followed by George Calvo, Tom Stevens Sr., Keith Koslov, and Mitch Hedrick. Their two heat races went to Benson and Calvo..

VRA Sport Compacts ran an excellent race with the win going to point leader Trevor Fitzgibbon, followed by Cody Greiman, 2009 series champ Brent Underwood, Jason Marshall, and Brandon Reta. Heat race wins went to Fitzgibbon and Greiman. Fitzgibbbon leads Greiman by 165 points in the season long point race after 8 races.

IMCA Modifieds had 13 cars in attendance Saturday. Heat race wins went to Randy McGraw and Dave Phipps. The 20 lap feature ran fast and furious with Austin Rodarte taking the win over Dave Phipps, Dennis Eckert, Brad Prows and Joe Weaver. Rodarte’s win keeps him in front in the series by 31 points over his brother Arron Rodarte after 12 events in 2010.

In our kid’s divisions, Mini Dwarf Pistons action saw the feature win go to Ryan Butcher, followed by Logan Rutherford, J.D. Brown, Destyn Garcia and Garrett Egan. Their heat race win went to Dstyn Garcia. In Mini Dwarf Super Chargers the win went to Miles Hedrick followed by Ricky Lewis, Joey freshour, Nick Velasquez and Joseph Magana. Their two heat race wina went to Freshour and Lewis. In Junior Midgets, the feature went to Austin Figueroa, followed by Devin McCree, Cody Majors, Brennan Rogers and Riley Helland. Brennan Rogers still maintains the point lead over Devin McCree by 100 points after 7 races.
