Ventura CA - April 16, 2011.....Troy
Rutherford continues to be the man
to beat as he took his fourth VRA
Sprint Car race of the new season to
increase his season point lead to
120 points over Greg Taylor.
Rutherford has been almost
unbeatable this season as he goes
for his second series championship.
In five races only Steve Conrad's
win on March 12 has broken his
string of victories. Starting from
fifth position in the 30 lap
feature, Rutherford took the lead on
lap 13 from Steve Conrad, who had
led the first 12 laps from his front
row starting position. From that
point on Rutherford was never headed
and took the checkered flag ahead of
Conrad, Johnathan Henry, Brent
Camarillo and Josh Ford. With 28
cars signed into the pits for the
night's competition, four hear races
were run. Heat race wins went to
Josh Ford in heat one, Cory Kruseman
in heat two, Rutherford in heat
three and Derek Buckley in heat
four. One Semi Main was run with the
win going to Brandon Thomson with
Dakota Kershaw, Tom Harper and Clark
Templeman III joining in the
transfers to the main event.
VRA Senior Sprints were back
Saturday with 13 cars signed into
the pits for two heat races and a 20
lap feature. Clif Warren took the
win in heat one with Richard
McCormick taking heat two. The 20
lap feature was a battle between
Russell Deblauw, Rob Kershaw and
Bruce Douglass. Deblauw led the
first lap but series point leader
Kershaw took over the lead on lap
two and led to the checkered flag
with Douglass trying to catch him.
The win puts Kershaw 10 points out
front in the season long point
battle over Douglass and 100 points
ahead of Deblauw. Finishing behind
Kershaw and Douglass were Richard
McCormick, Clif Warren and Russell
DeBlauw.
IMCA Modiifeds ran two heat races
Saturday night with wins going to
Brad Prows and Austin Rodarte.
Twelve of the 14 cars signed in
started the 20 lap feature with the
win going to past champion Jack
Parker followed by Brad Prows,
Austin Rodarte, John Romero and Rob
Green. Prow's second place finish
moved him ahead of 2010 series
champion Austin Rodarte in the 2011
season run for the championship by a
slim 4 point margin after four
races.
VRA Pro Dwarf Cars saw a small field
of 9 cars in attendance Saturday
night. One heat race was run with
the win going to Kevin Calvo. Their
feature event went to past series
champion Ray Estrada. He was
followed across the line by Curt
Cook, Kevin Calvo, Tom Stephens and
Jason Horton.
The California Lightning Sprints
made their first appearance at
Ventura Raceway in 2011 Saturday.
Heat race wins went to Jacob Will
and Jim Squire III. the 20 lap
feature went to Dan Hillberg after
on track winner Jarrett Kramer
failed post race tech.
Our final class that raced Saturday
night was our VRA Go Karts. Four
heat race s were run with wins going
to Scott Bohle, Dave Pankratz,
Richard Renken and Tyler Stover. One
Semi Main was run with the win going
to Josh Ford. The 20 lap feature
went to Richard Renken followed by
James Locey, Dave Pankratz, Jeremy
Ellertson and Bill Didion.
Racing resumes next weekend with VRA
Sprint Cars, VRA Midgets, Focus
Midgets, Jr. focus Midgets, IMCA
Modifieds and Go Karts.
