Ventura CA - March 10,2012.....Twenty- three VRA Sprint Cars and drivers signed into the pits Saturday night March 10, all with the hope to be the team to take the $2,500 winners check in the first of three 2012 All Coast Challenge Races for VRA 360 Sprint Cars. All the top drivers were there and all gave it there best shot. In the end it was visiting USAC/CRA past champion Mike Spencer who showed them the way. Spencer started from pole position in the field of 21 cars in the 30 lap feature, and was never headed. The race that saw 11 of the finishers on the lead lap. Four cars were one lap down. Following Spencer to the line were opening night winner, Troy Rutherford, Danny Faria, Matt Mitchell and Cory Kruseman The night saw three heat races run, with wins going to Kyle Smith in the Extreme Muffler Heat One, Danny Faria in the Kaeding Performance Heat Two and Mike Spencer in the BR Motorsports Heat Three. One Semi Main was run with visiting Arizona driver Zach Sawyer taking the win. Sawyer then went on to take the $500 Hard Charger Award for improving his starting position by 8 positions in the feature to finish 9th from his 17th starting spot. The second place finish by Rutherford in this special All Coast Challenge Series race puts him out front in the point race for the VRA Season Championship and in second place in the prestigious All Coast Challenge race. Ventura Raceway and all the VRA drivers and crews want to give a special thanks to Mike Groswendt of All Coast Construction for sponsoring this event and series.

IMCA Modifieds opened their 2012 season with a fifteen car field. Robby Sawyer took the 20 lap feature win followed by Buck Cox, Gary Curtis, Brad Prows an Mark Davis. Heat race wins went to Austin Rodarte and Aaron Rodarte. Both Rodarte brother fell out of the main event due to damage suffered during the race which saw several on track incidents in early lap action.

VRA Ford Focus Midgets were also on hand Saturday night. Ford Focus Division heat race wins went to Wally Pankratz in heat one and Christine Breckenridge in heat two. The 20 lap feature went to Wally Pankratz followed by Parker Colston, Christine Breckenridge, Vance Lein and Cole Custer who led the first half of the race only to suffer mechanical issues and fall out while leading.

The final group racing Saturday was our new VRA Mod Lite Class. Kevin Alverson took both the heat race win as well as the 20 lap feature win. Following Alverson to the line n the feature were Mike Sweeney, Dave Dotson and Chris Meridith.

Ventura Raceway returns to racing next Saturday March 17, with a full program of racing action featuring VRA Midgets in the first Battle of the Beach Race of 2012, VRA Senior Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets, VRA kids classes and VRA Go Karts.
