night September 22, saw 20 VRA Sprint
Cars signed into the pits for another
night of close hard fought, exciting
racing action. Greg Alexander returned
to Ventura with a new car and dominated
the night winning both his heat race and
the 30 lap feature. He took the lead
from Guy Woodward, who is running in
Luis Espinosa's #09, on lap 8 and led
the final 22 laps. He was followed
across the line by Tom Hendricks,
Woodward, point leader Kyle Smith and
Richard McCormick. Two hard chargers in
the early part of the race suffered
after contact with lapped cars. Both
Clark Templeman III and Rick Hendrix
either left the race or fell out due to
the contact in turn one and two. There
were three heat races run with wins
going to Rick Hendrix in the Extreme
Muffler Heat One, Ed Schwarz in the LRB
Manufacturing Heat Two and Greg
Alexander in the BR Motorsports Heat
Three. Kyle Smith continues to lead in
the season point race by 225 points over
Hendricks with Templeman and Brian
Camarillo tied for third after ten
races.
VRA Dwarf Cars were on hand running in
two divisions, Seniors and Pros. In the
Seniors, the 20 lap feature win went to
Bill VanPraag with Keith Vondersaar,
Bobby Lague, George Calvo and Tom
Stephens Sr following him across the
finish line. They ran two heat races
with the wins going to Tom Stephens Sr
and George Calvo. In Pro action the main
event started 16 cars with the win going
to Curt Cook over Randy Gordon, Kevin
Calvo Eric Moore and Luke Boles. They
ran two heat races with wins going to
Eric Moore and Ray Estrada. After last
Saturday's action, Ray Estrada leads in
Luke Boles Pro points by 65 and Bill
VanPraag leads in Senior points by 95
over Tom Stephens Sr.
California Lightning Sprints made their
lone 2012 appearance at Ventura Raceway
Saturday night. With18 cars in
attendance they put on a very good night
of racing. In heat racing, the wins went
to Guy Maresch in heat one and Dan
Hillberg in heat two. The 20 lap feature
went to Bobby Michnowicz followed by
Doug Nunes, Dan Hillberg, Darren
Hillberg and Damon Arnett.
VRA Mod Lights were on hand last week
with the 20 lap feature win going to
Kevin Alverson followed by Dave Dotson,
Chris Meredith and Mike Sweeney.
Alverson also took their one 8 lap heat
race.
The final groups racing Saturday night
were the VRA Kid's Classes. In VRA Mini
Dwarf Pistons, the 12 lap feature win
went to Garrett Egan followed by Kyleigh
Forster, Blake Hendricks, Zack Chavez
and Dylan Neal. Hendricks took their one
heat race. In VRA Mini Dwarf
Superchargers the 12 lap feature went to
J D Brown over Nick Velasquez. Velasquez
took their heat race win. VRA Junior
Midgets ran one heat race that went to
Miles Hedrick. The15 lap feature went to
point leader Devin McCree followed by
Tommy Velasquez, Oliver Blades and Miles
Hedrick.
