KRUSEMAN WINS SPRINT CAR RACE AT VENTURA RACEWAY

Saturday night July 11, was another exciting night of open wheel racing at Ventura Raceway that the fans in attendance will long remember. It has been said many times this season, but it just doesn’t get any better than July 11, which saw over 100 cars in the pits racing in six classes ranging from 360 sprints to go karts. The racing was spectacular with two of the main events going green-white-checker. With VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, USAC Midgets, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, USAC Junior Ford Focus and our new go kart class racing there was something for everyone in attendance to enjoy.

VRA Sprints were out in force after last weeks Fourth of July Holiday break. The night started out with four heat races. Wins went to season point’s leader Kevin Kierce, Tyler Edwards, Brian Camarillo and up and coming driver Cody Kershaw. The next race on the sprinters agenda was their 12 lap semi main, this race saw 13 cars take the green flag. After all was said and done, Richard McCormick took the win. Cory Kruseman and Johnathon Henry led the 20 car field to the green for the 30 lap feature. After the first few laps settled, it was Kruseman out front being challenged by Henry. This is the way the race would go as it ran green-white-checker in a record time of 6 minutes 42 seconds from the green flag to the checkered flag. At the line it was Kruseman, Henry, Kierce, Brian Camarillo and Cody Kershaw. To saw the least the race was another barn burner that has typified the racing on the new Ventura oval this season. Krusemans strong performance showed in the fact that he lapped all but the top 8 finishers in the event. Only one car fell out of the event during its 30 laps of racing.

USAC Midget made their third 2009 appearance Saturday night and the midget fans were not disappointed with the racing. Heat race wins went to Rick Hendrix, Jerome Rodella, and Josh Lakatos, The 30 lap feature was a wild and woolly affair with Garrett Hansen taking the win over Josh Ford, Cory Kruseman, Robby Josett and Shannon McQueen. The race was halted by red flag once by a flip in turn one by Ernie Bartley III on lap 23.

VRA Senior Sprints ran a full program that featured two heat races that were won by Bill Badger and 2008 champion Rob Kershaw. The 20 lap feature saw point’s contender Bruce Douglass take a strong win over the 13 car field. This race also ran green-white-checker in a record time of 4 minutes and 29 seconds. Following Douglass across the finish line were Jeff Culver, Wiley Miller, Kershaw, and Cliff Warren.

USAC ford Focus racing saw a field of13 cars take the green in their 20 lap feature. The win went to Nick Carlson with Sean Dodenhoff, Brody Roa, Bobby Michnovich and Cody Swanson. Heat race wins went to Dodenhoff and Michnovich.

USAC Junior Focus 11 cars sign in on Saturday. Heat race wins went to Kyle Edwards and Tanner Kershaw. Jarid Blondell made it a history making event as he took his first ever Junior Focus win in the 20 lap feature. Following Blondell across the finish line were Taylor Ferns, Alex Jacobsen, Dennis Simunovich and Eathan Quinn.

The Go Karts also were out in strong numbers as 22 cars raced in this new division. Three heats were run with wins going to Harlan Willis, Chriss Gibb and David Pankratz. Gibb went on to win the 20 lap feature over Bill Didion, Pnkratz, Scott Bohle and Tom Sherman.

VENTURA, Calif. (July 11, 2009) – Cory Kruseman has momentum again. Kruseman picked up his second VRA Sprint Car victory of 2009 at Ventura Raceway. A week earlier he won a USAC Sprint Car race.

Kruseman led every lap in the VRA Sprint Car race, holding off Stockton’s Johnathon Henry and VRA points leader Kevin Kierce of Reseda.

The other winners Saturday included Ventura’s Bruce Douglass (Senior Sprint Cars), Jarid Blondel (Orange) in the USAC Junior Ford Focus Midgets, Nick Carlson (Norwalk) in the USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Garrett Hanson (Manhattan Beach) in the USAC Western Midgets and Chris Gibb (Lakewood) in Karts.

Kruseman was third in the Western States Midgets race, behind Hanson and Camarillo’s Josh Ford. Kruseman also finished ninth in the Karts feature.
