It was another great night of open
wheel racing at Ventura Raceway on
Saturday night September 5, with a
full program of exciting racing that
saw four adult and four junior
classes in action on our 1/5 mile
oval.
VRA Sprints were back after last
weeks exciting racing with another
night of all out racing action. 30
cars signed into the pits to help
celebrate the Labor Day Weekend. The
night started with four heat races
won by Brandon Thomson, John Nock,
Cory Kruseman and Cody Kershaw. A 12
lap semi main was run with the win
going to last weeks feature winner
Steve Conrad. The 30 lap feature was
another wild affair that went 20+
laps before the first yellow was
brought put when Guy Woodward spun
in turn three. Pole sitter and
current point leader Kevin Kierce
led from the start to take his 5th
feature win of the year. He was
followed across the line by Troy
Rutherford, Cody Kershaw, Cory
Kruseman and Steve Conrad who came
from 17th starting position to
finish 5th. .
VRA Senior Sprints were also back in
action. Saturday the Seniors ran a
great race going green-white-checker
in their 20 lap feature. Rob Kershaw
took the win over last week’s winner
Jeff Culver. Following Kershaw and
Culver across the line were Jesse
Denome, Wiley Miller and Bruce
Douglass. Three heats were run with
wins going to Denome, Miller and
Culver. Kershaw’s win moved him back
into a 20 point lead over Douglass.
These two drivers have swapped the
point’s lead all season long.
IMCA Modifieds were also in the
house with a field of 19 cars signed
in. Past track champion Randy McGraw
returned from his win last week and
took a heat race win and the feature
win as well. He led Jack Parker,
Doug Thornton, Jared Domingos and
Wes Richardson to the checker. The
race was marred by a 9 car accident
at the start finish line at mid-race
that took out several front runners.
Austin Rodarte retains 32 point lead
over Jack Parker with one race left
in their 2009 season. Rob Green Also
took a heat race win on Saturday.
Rodarte will be going for his first
tack championship when the IMCA
Modifieds return to action on
September 26th.
Senior Dwarf Cars also were on hand
Saturday night as well. They ran two
heats with the wins going to Bill
VanPraag and Mike Neal. The feature
event ran green-white-checker with
Kevin Alverson taking the win
followed by Ed Niedzwiecki, Lee
Majors, Bill VanPraag and Mike Neal.
USAC Junior Ford Focus were on hand
with 9 cars in the pits. There was
one heat race run with the win going
to Dennis Simunovich.. The feature
went to first time Ventura track
winner Kyle Edwards. Casey Martinez,
Tanner Kershaw, Andrew Murray and
Dennis Simunovich followed him to
the line. Ethan Quinn continues in
the point lead with a 12 point lead
over Edwards in the season long
point race.
The final classes racing on Saturday
were our three kid’s classes.
Feature wins went to Luke Boles in
Junior Midgets, Kyle Peterson in
Mini Dwarf Pistons and Oliver Blades
in Mini Dwarf Super Chargers. Heat
race wins went to Ricky Lewis in
